We used the patterns that we got from our museum trip to draw some pastel pictures. First we used pencil to draw the pattern. Then we put vivid over the lines. We were only meant to use up to 3 colours. We used pastels to colour our patterns in. The pastels make the colours look effective from a distance.

Museum Trip
On Monday Room 7 went to the museum in Napier. We learnt all about the art deco patterns. We got a sheet and we had to look around the museum for the answers to the questions. We walked around Napier looking at the art deco patterns.
We also learnt about the 1931 earthquake in Napier which was the reason that lots of building in Napier were rebuilt in the Art Deco style. One fact we learnt was how big on the richter scale the earthquake was. It was 7.9.
This was all part of our learning based on "Our Place".

Artwork in Room 7
Walking the Dot
We got a piece of paper. We had to put our pencil on the paper and close our eyes. Miss Elsworth read some instructions without taking the pencil off the paper. We then opened our eyes and coloured the picture in with crayon. We were learning to use contrasting colours to make our artwork look effective.
Dot Artwork
We had to draw a volcano outline in pencil. We had to dot the volcano in different colours. We were learning to use hot and cold colours to shade and blend in.

Room 7 Games
The Year 5 cup challenge is a different variety of sport and games where we compete against Room 6. We play Seaweed, Tails, and Capture the Flag, with more games to come. We usually play every second Friday. We have lost twice and won once.
Brain breaks are activities we do to get oxygen to our brains. We dance, do the fitness trail and sometimes we play games like Simon Says.
At lunchtime we play games like soccer, use the fitness trail, run around the playground (tag), patter tennis and lots of other games.
We play inside games like Heads Down Thumbs Up and Silent Ball. For Silent Ball we throw a soft ball around the room for other to catch. You try not to get out by throwing to hard, dropping the ball and talking.
In the library we have boards games that we can play, like Chess, Monopoly and Cluedo.
As you can see Room 7 is a really active class.
